About this game
Pokémon Pitch Black is a ROM hack of Pokémon FireRed by archie in which every wild and trainer creature appears as the ghost Marowak sprite until it has been defeated. It began as a request from the streamer Arex and was first published in January 2023; a rebuilt decompilation version followed in December 2025 as the final release. The change is deliberately narrow — the Kanto adventure is otherwise left alone — and the hack is meant to be played with a randomiser, so that each battle turns into a guessing game in the style of the anime's "Who's That Pokémon?" segment.
